Video Endoscopy & Ear Lavage
Ear disease is one of the most common dermatological problems
seen in canine patients. Although most cases can be adequately
treated with topical and oral medications, in some circumstances,
more aggressive treatment techniques are needed to appropriately
resolve the problem.
Removal of wax and debris from the ear canal
is one of the most important steps in the treatment of ear disease.
General ear cleansing techniques can be inadequate in dogs with
severe disease necessitating an ear lavage. An ear lavage begins
with the patient under general anesthesia, where a video endoscope
is then utilized to flush and physically remove wax, debris, and
infectious material from the ear canal.
Ear drums can be meticulously cleaned at this point and evaluated for trauma
or rupture. In the case of ruptured eardrums, the middle ear can
be lavaged to remove accumulated debris and medication can be instilled
into the area of infection.
